Resveratrol is one of the most talked about new supplements on the market today. I say new, but it has been around for a while, but recently after being featured on 60 Minutes and other news programs it has taken off in popularity. Researchers are hailing it as the fountain of youth. The question is, what exactly is it and why should you consider taking it?
Before we start we need to talk about what resveratrol really is. It is an antioxidant that comes from the skin of red grapes and products like red wine and grape juice that is made from red grapes. Other sources of resveratrol in your diet are berries (like blueberries and cranberries) as well as peanuts and peanut products. In addition to these sources, Japanese knotweed is used in some supplements as a source of resveratrol.
Many scientists and researchers think that resveratrol could be the key to extending human life spans, kind of like a fountain of youth. They have conducted a lot of scientific tests and those tests will continue as researchers and drug companies strive to prove the benefits of supplementing with resveratrol or even taking resveratrol based drugs. Below I will go over a couple of the most interesting tests.
Cancer, and breast cancer specifically, has been one of the focuses of resveratrol testing. Research done has shown that it can stop estrogen from causing tumors in breast cancer cells. In essence, this means resveratrol could prevent breast cancer from forming from excess estrogen in the body.
Resveratrol has also been tested on fat cells. A first trial showed that mice taking resveratrol supplements didn’t have the health problems associated with obesity from a high calorie diet. A second test showed that human fat cells didn’t develop and actually decreased when exposed to resveratrol.
If you think that resveratrol supplements will be too expensive for you to try, you can take advantage of some great free trial offers. Many companies will send you a free trial and all you have to do is pay for shipping. You will be signed up for automatic shipments after that to make sure you never run out of supplements, but you can cancel this at any time. You can even cancel before you get your first shipment and wind up paying nothing other than shipping for your free trial. Just be sure to pay attention to the details of the offer so you know how to cancel.
